Office of Diversity and Leadership
Committed to addressing the important global challenges of the 21st century, the School of Medicine actively seeks to build cultural and ethnic diversity across its research, educational and patient care activities. Under the direction of senior associate dean Hannah Valantine, MD, the Office of Diversity and Leadership works to recruit and retain diverse faculty, students, trainees and staff to enhance the excellence of our academic and service programs.
Diversity in the MD Program
- recruits students from under-represented backgrounds; promotes research and training in minority health-care issues.
- a supportive academic opportunity for disadvantaged college students interested in pursuing careers in medicine and biomedical research.
- a summer residential course that helps high school students from low-income and under-represented backgrounds prepare for future careers in health care.
Diversity in the PhD Programs
- recruit and support students from diverse backgrounds for careers in the biological and biomedical sciences.
- an internship program for undergraduates from under-represented backgrounds interested in pursuing a PhD in the biomedical sciences.
- a recruitment event for underrepresented students who have been admitted to the Bioengineering, Biomedical Informatics or Biosciences Programs.
